Creativity Boot Camp for Illustrators & Writers (PB, MG  & YA)! 

Start your year off on the right foot by joining like-minded kid lit people for an afternoon of hands-on, interactive workshops guaranteed to relight your creative spark. Bring your favorite writing/art equipment for a day of idea generating. We’ll have 3 main workshops, 2 mini sessions, time for snacks and socializing, and door prizes. Whether you want to *finally* finish your first project, find a new project for 2017, or explore a whole different genre in kid lit, this boot camp is for you!

KEY WORKSHOP PRESENTERS: MICHAEL HALE is an author, illustrator, and currently SCBWI-AZ’s Regional Illustrator Coordinator. He is the illustrator for UP UP UP, written by Phoebe Fox. Michael has written, designed, and illustrated advertising campaigns for print, radio, and TV. He’s designed floats, museum exhibits, interactive learning displays, playgrounds, holiday light shows, and was even the Creative Director at the Phoenix Zoo. SARA FUJIMURA is an author, creative writing teacher, and literacy advocate. Her work has appeared in such magazines as LEARNING THROUGH HISTORY, APPLESEEDS, Scholastic’s SCIENCE WORLD, GIRLS’ LIFE, and RAISING AZ KIDS. Sara has done presentations for SCBWI-AZ, SCBWI-Japan, Girl Scouts, RWA, and ONEBOOKAZ. Sara is the organizer of Rock the Drop-Phoenix, a guerrilla literacy event to support YALSA’s Teen Read Week. TOM LEVEEN is the author of seven YA novels including PARTY, ZERO, and SICK. In addition to his writing, Tom is an Early Literacy Specialist for the City of Phoenix and an instructor for ASU’s Piper Center for Creative Writing. Tom was the Artistic Director for the Is What It Is Theatre for over a decade. He pulled from this experience to write his nonfiction book HOW TO WRITE AWESOME DIALOGUE! Before January 31, 2017 workshop tuition only subject to a $10 handling fee.
Before February 11, 2017—50% of workshop tuition
No refunds after February 18, 2017
No credits will be issued.
